Privacy Policy

Who we are

BinDays (bindays.org) is an independent UK bin collection day checker. We are not affiliated with any local authority, government body or waste contractor. When this policy refers to "we", "us" or "our", it means the BinDays service.

What information we collect

We collect as little information as possible. When you use BinDays, the following may be processed:

• Postcode: When you enter a postcode, it is sent to the postcodes.io service to identify your local council. We do not store your postcode and it is not linked to any personal profile.
• Usage data: Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic server logs including your IP address, browser type, pages visited and time of access. These logs are used for security monitoring and are not used to identify you personally.
• Cookies: We use cookies for website functionality and advertising. See our Cookie Policy for details.

We do not ask you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address or any contact details unless you choose to email us directly at contact@bindays.org.

How we use your information

The information we process is used only for the following purposes:

• To identify your local council from your postcode and redirect you to its official bin day checker
• To ensure the website functions correctly and securely
• To display advertising through Google AdSense, which helps fund the free service
• To understand how the website is used through anonymised analytics

Advertising

BinDays uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may use cookies to show you adverts based on your interests and previous browsing behaviour. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve adverts based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate BinDays:

• postcodes.io: An open-source UK postcode lookup service. When you enter a postcode, it is sent to this service to identify your council. No personal data is stored by postcodes.io beyond what is needed to process the request.
• Google AdSense: Advertising service. Google's privacy policy applies to its use of your data. See policies.google.com/privacy.
• Google Analytics: Anonymised website analytics. IP addresses are anonymised before processing.

When you click a link to a council's website, you leave BinDays and are subject to that council's own privacy policy.

Cookies

We use cookies on this website. For full details of the cookies we set and how to manage them, please see our Cookie Policy.

Data retention

We do not retain postcode searches or personal information from your use of the bin day finder. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days for security purposes and are then deleted automatically.

If you contact us by email, we will retain your email address and the content of your message for as long as is necessary to respond to your enquiry and for up to 12 months thereafter.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have rights including the right to access information we hold about you, the right to ask us to correct inaccurate information, and the right to ask us to delete information we hold about you.

Because we do not store personal information from your use of the website, there is usually nothing to access or delete. If you have contacted us by email and wish to exercise your rights, please email contact@bindays.org.

Children

BinDays is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
