What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences and to provide information to the website owners.

Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your device. They are not harmful. The information they contain is encrypted and can only be read by the website that created them, or in the case of third-party cookies, the organisation that set them.

How we use cookies

BinDays uses cookies in two ways: to make the website function correctly, and to display advertising that helps fund the free service. We do not use cookies to build personal profiles or to track you across the internet for our own purposes.

Essential cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function. They do not collect any personal information and cannot be switched off. Without them, parts of the website would not work correctly.

Examples include cookies that remember your cookie preferences and session cookies that expire when you close your browser.

Analytics cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use BinDays. This helps us improve the website and identify pages that are not working as well as they should.

Google Analytics collects information such as which pages you visit, how long you spend on each page, and which links you click. All data is anonymised before it reaches us. We cannot use it to identify you as an individual.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising cookies

BinDays displays advertisements through Google AdSense. These adverts help fund the free service. Google AdSense uses cookies to show you adverts that are relevant to your interests, based on your browsing history across websites that use Google services.

You can manage your Google advertising preferences at Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Your Online Choices website.

Even if you opt out of personalised advertising, you will still see adverts on BinDays. They will just be less personalised to your interests.

Third-party cookies

When you visit BinDays, cookies may also be set by third-party services we use. These are governed by the privacy and cookie policies of the relevant third parties, not by us. The third parties whose cookies may appear on BinDays are:

If you follow a link to a council's website, that website may set its own cookies. Those are governed by that council's cookie policy.

How to manage cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. The following links explain how to manage cookies in the most common browsers:

Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of BinDays and other websites you visit. Essential cookies cannot be disabled through your browser without affecting how the website works.

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time as the cookies we use or the law changes. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised date. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
